Torino, 11 gennaio 2012. Read more
The Neubot project is based on an open-source computer program, the Neubot, that, downloaded and installed by Internet users, performs quality of service measurements and collects data at a central server. The raw results are published on the web under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons Zero license. This paper is the guide for researchers and individuals that aims to study, build on and analyze Neubot methodology and results. We provide an exhaustive documentation of Neubot’s HTTP test behavior, along with a discussion of the methodology.Read more
The “network neutrality bot” (Neubot) is an evolving software architecture for distributed Internet access quality and network neutrality measurements. The core of this architecture is an open-source agent that ordinary users may install on their computers to gain a deeper understanding of their Internet connections. The agent periodically monitors the quality of service provided to the user, running background active transmission tests that emulate different application-level protocols.Read more
The “Network Neutrality Bot” (Neubot) is a software application that measures, in a distributed way, Internet access quality of service with a specific emphasis on detection of potential network neutrality violations (such as peer-to-peer traffic discrimination). It is based on a lightweight, open-source computer program that can be downloaded and installed by ordinary Internet users.Read more
The original Internet design, in which the network provides neutral information delivery, has been amended over the years, in order that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) achieved the power to slow down, or even drop, certain types of traffic. By itself, this capability, is not an absolute evil: Indeed it could be exploited to prevent spam distribution, or to isolate a botnet, i.e. a network of remotely-controlled virus-infected malware-spreading computers.Read more
The NEXA Center for Internet & Society at the Politecnico di Torino (DAUIN) seeks an experienced software developer for the following job posting.
Feasibility study related to the continuation of the "Network Neutrality Bot" project (see NEUBOT: http://nexa.polito.it/neubot), concerning the implementation of a piece of software that, installed on the PC of Internet users, can measure various parameters related to the quality of service of an Internet connecRead more
Neubot is a research project on network neutrality. The project is based on a lightweight open-source program that interested users can download and install on their computers. The program runs in background and periodically performs transmission tests with some test servers and with other instances of the program itself. These transmission tests probe the Internet using various application level protocols. The program saves tests results locally and uploads them on the project servers. The collected dataset contains samples from various Providers and allows to monitor network neutrality.Read more
