Job Opening: NEUBOT Project

The Nexa Center for Internet & Society at the Politecnico di Torino (DAUIN) seeks an experienced software developer for the following job posting.

Title of the project and main objectives

Feasibility study related to the continuation of the "Network Neutrality Bot" project (see NEUBOT: http://nexa.polito.it/neubot), concerning the implementation of a piece of software that, installed on the PC of Internet users, can measure various parameters related to the quality of service of an Internet connection, with particular reference to the possible discrimination of specific protocols. An analytic review of analogous projects being developed worldwide constitutes an integral part of the study.

Required education, experience, professional and interpersonal skills

The applicant must have solid and advanced programming skills, demonstrated by several years of experience, including programming experiences related to network environments. A solid knowledge of Java is required in order to analyze the existing NEUBOT code. The applicant must also have a very good knowledge of the main network protocols (including IP, UDP, RTP, TCP, P2P protocols) and of the most relevant techniques to measure network performances. The applicant must have a very good English language proficiency level (in particular reading and writing) and good interpersonal skills, also to contact in the most effective way the developers of similar ongoing projects.
The applicant must have significant project analysis skill in order to be able, on the basis of the information collected through the review of existing projects (and of the prototype developed by the Nexa Center), to prepare a well supported, easily readable, and technically sound proposal about the possibility of completing the implementation of the NEUBOT project. The proposal must be articulated on different level (from the minimal one to the most complete one) and should include an estimate of the required resources and related implementation time.
A degree in Software Engineering, Engineering of Telecommunications, Informatics (or equivalent foreign titles) is required.

Additional information

The project will be supervised by the directors of the Nexa Center (Politecnico di Torino, DAUIN) and will take place in coordination with the staff of the Center. The responsible for the project is prof. Juan Carlos De Martin.

This job opening concerns a short term contract ("occasional contract") for the duration of 2 months and with a gross salary of euro 5,000.00 (in a unique transfer, after the delivery and approval of the final report).
