The Nexa Center for Internet and Society today announces the members of the Nexa community for the 2025-2026 academic year.
We are pleased to welcome two new Faculty Fellows: Daniele Imbruglia (Sapienza Università di Roma) and Federica Cappelluti (Politecnico di Torino), who will contribute to the Center’s academic activities and the life of our community.
We are also delighted to announce that Antonio Casilli (Institut Polytechnique de Paris), already a Faculty Fellow, has been appointed Trustee of the Nexa Center.
The new Faculty Fellows
Daniele Imbruglia – Faculty Fellow
Daniele Imbruglia is Associate Professor of private law at Sapienza – University of Rome, where he teaches private law and consumer law. He obtained his PhD in European private law from the Scuola Normale Superiore (Florence), and later he held research fellowships in the United Kingdom and Germany. His research has focused on contracts, remedies, and European private law.
In the field of digital private law, he has been involved with the Juridical Observatory on Digital Innovation (JODI)’s activities since its foundation (2019) and he has published numerous articles on profiling, algorithmic bias, and the regulation of new technologies. In this context, his main interest lies in so-called ‘critical studies of algorithms’.
Federica Cappelluti – Faculty Fellow
Federica Cappelluti is full professor of Electronics at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (DET) of Politecnico di Torino. Her core scientific research focuses on the physics-based modeling, simulation, and design of semiconductor devices for photovoltaic and energy applications.
Alongside her disciplinary research, she has developed a commitment to the study and advancement of scientific culture, focusing on the intersection between science, policy, and society. Across both domains, she has acted as Principal Investigator and scientific coordinator for research grants funded by Horizon Europe, H2020, and the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
She currently directs the Center for Open Science Studies at Politecnico di Torino, having previously served as the Rector’s Advisor for Open Science from 2018 to 2024. In these capacities, she is actively involved in national and European networks, including the Italian Association for the Promotion of Open Science (AISA), dedicated to promoting a culture of Open Science, FAIR principles, open access, and responsible research assessment.
Her interests in the dynamics of scientific communication, epistemology, and the relationship between science and society led her to co-edit the book Critica della ragione pandemica (Meltemi, 2025).
As a Faculty Fellow at the Nexa Center, she aims to contribute to bridging engineering sciences, open science paradigms, and the critical analysis of AI and knowledge production, dissemination, and its relationship with society in the digital era.
Honoring the ethos of “networking” which is central to an Internet & Society center such as Nexa, the Nexa community is also complemented by Faculty Associates, who will actively collaborate with the Nexa Center community through an array of channels.
These relationships, as well as the involvement of former collaborators, partners, students, interns and other colleagues, are fundamental to the work and identity of the Nexa Center, as well as to enhancing its capacity and expertise. The Nexa Center sincerely thanks both those community members who will maintain their affiliations with the Center during the coming academic year, as well as friends who – after important past contributions – will move to alumni status.
Finally, the Nexa Center commemorates the approaching 5th anniversary of Philippe Aigrain‘s death (11 July 2021) and the 9th anniversary of Stefano Rodotà (23 June 2017). Both Trustees of the Nexa Center since its foundation in 2006, Aigrain and Rodotà were scholars and friends whose ideas and deep humanity left an indelible mark on the memory of all of us.
